The Pocket Oxford Theatre’s work focuses on making Shakespeare accessible to young people and introducing them to Shakespeare’s amazing and timeless stories in a new, modern and exciting way; making them relevant and engaging to young people, and to our time.

Since 2009 The Pocket Oxford Theatre Company has extensively toured its unique shows in theatres and schools throughout Europe, and although we specialise in Key Stage 2 and Key Stage 3, our shows are tailor-made according to the audience’s age and ability, and enjoyed equally by students of all ages.

Our productions are all accompanied by an educational work pack that includes practical games, exercises and activities suitable for the classroom (both pre and post show) that are designed to enhance the pupils’ understanding and experience of Shakespeare, the specific play, its historical context, and our company’s reworking of the original text.

Our company includes qualified teachers with extensive experience in education both at primary and secondary level. All of our actors have worked as part of our theatre in education tours and taught drama workshops, both in the UK and abroad. Everyone in the company has passed a CRB check, and we are all experienced performers.

The Pocket Oxford Theatre makes Shakespeare fun, exciting, and relevant to students of all ages and abilities with its original and contemporary interpretations of these classic plays.

English as a foreign language in schools

The Pocket Oxford Theatre is an English language theatre company, who create and perform original pieces of theatre in English to ignite their audiences imagination and to motivate students to learn English. We provide a quality theatrical and educational experience, making learning English fun for all ages and abilities. Since 2009 The Pocket Oxford Theatre has toured throughout Spain, creating shows for Primary, Secondary, EON and Adult Language schools. The company’s actors are all English native speakers and trained theatre/education professionals. Our shows are tailor-made thematically, stylistically and linguistically according to the audience’s age and level of English comprehension. Our work is very interactive and audience participation is essential to our performances, which increases the students’ confidence in using and understanding a new language, as well as introducing them to the work of William Shakespeare. Each new production comes with its own educational work pack that includes pre-show preparation and post-show discussion points suitable for the classroom, designed to enhance the pupils’ understanding and experience of Shakespeare’s play, and our company’s adaptation (all in English of course!). All our shows are inclusive, accessible, interactive and fun; providing students of all ages with an invaluable educational experience.
